Is it Footbag or Hacky Sack?

This question comes up a lot, so to help clear things up I decided to explain what the deal is behind both terms. (footbag and hacky sack)

It all goes back to when modern footbag was invented, a man named Mike Marshall had created a homemade bean bag. His friend John Stalberger healing from his knee surgery was in need of a fun way to exercise his knees. Together they invented a new game which they named “Hackin’ the Sack.” After its creation the two decided to name the game under trademark of “Hacky Sack”. Later on this trademark was sold to a toy company named Wham-O. The game eventually evolved into a variety of sports, the most frequently played being freestyle and net footbag.

So basically to sum things up, the word footbag refers to any sport using a small round object filled with pellets or sand through manipulation of foot. On the other hand the word hacky sack refers to a brand of footbag that is generally used by non serious players for circle kicking.
